The word “intention” is a very loaded one in our vocabulary and one that is so often used to mean anything that doesn’t really mean anything at all. I’m sure there are a lot of people who use the word “intention” in a self-centered way, but the truth is that most of us use it for a very specific purpose.
For instance, a lot of people use the word intention as a way to describe what we want to do. Like, we want to buy a new car, and we write down a list of things we want on our car’s sticker. But what they really mean is they’re doing a little bit of a self-analysis. They decide what they want to do in the future, and they decide what they want to do now.
The difference is that intention is not a self-interested thing. It isn’t actually a choice. The goal of intention is the same as the goal of a person who uses the word intention to analyze why he does something. Even if you decide you want to go out for a run, you still have to do it, even if you already know you’re going to do it.
